Leonard Jr. High School

Dear Families -
I wanted to reach out to you with some updates specific to LJH. Mr. Maxwell will continue to send out information for the district. We are missing the students and their families. We are going to work hard to stay connected with each of you. We appreciate your patience and support as we navigate the uncharted waters. I have been in amazement the way our staff has come together in the face of adversity. I want you to know that we have brainstormed many aspects of learning to try to come up with some successful ideas to proceed with school, just in a different way.
Here are a few things that you may be wondering.
Assignments- You are receiving a packet with a week’s work of assignments for you child in the mail. If you do not receive it after a few days, then please email me to let me know. We ask that once your child has completed the work that you can return the work by either mail or drive by drop-off. The drive by drop-off will be open Monday, March 30th, and Tuesday, March 31st from 11:00-12:30 and 5:30-7:00. You will need to drive by in front of the junior high and drop the packet in the labeled tub that corresponds to your child’s grade (6th, 7th, 8th).
In the packet, you will find an assignment that should take your child 20-30 minutes/day, for each core content area, to complete. If your child is struggling with an assignment or if you or your student have questions then please reach out to their teacher by email. All staff emails are listed on the LJH website. Teachers are monitoring their emails and are ready to respond to help and/or answer questions.
Grades- Students will be receiving grades with the completion of the assignments in the packet. You will still be able to monitor your child’s progress through the parent portal. If a student chooses to not complete the packet then their grade will be reflective of that choice. You will find a progress report with this letter for grades that were completed before Spring Break.
Enrichment- I have included in the envelope 3 different programs that students have been using at school. These programs are for enrichment only and not mandatory. They will NOT be for a grade. Student’s logins have been included. Students are familiar with each one of the programs. Imagine Math (Math) and Istation (Reading)are programs that differentiate to student’s needs. Also, you will see Study Island (Edmentum) information. This program is more for grade-level content that will look similar to STAAR. It is available for each content area/grade level that is tested.
Extra-Curricular- All activities have been cancelled while school and facilities are closed. Everything will be rescheduled once school resumes.
We are easing into this new learning format to keep frustrations at a minimum. We may try some things that we find do not work very well but we will adapt and continue to strive to meet the needs of our students and families. Again, thank you for your support and patience. Reach out to us by email if we can help in anyway.
